Great cover! John Gall told me he’s been trying to get together a book overview of Roy Kuhlman’s work for years. Hopefully that happens some day.

Funny you mention that. Roy Kuhlman’s daughter has stumbled across this site and been commenting. It made me think that someone should do a book about him!

There was a book suggested, but the author was too inexperienced. I may have to write it myself, but do not have the time right now. John should contact me ardenr@cox.net. I would love to talk to him about a book. I have all the images needed for a book, including most of the original covers in pristine condition, unbound. It would be good to act soon before everyone in his life dies. There was a show a few years ago, in Albany at Sage Opalka, and at Minot State in SD. And he was recently included in a textbook for the first time, alongside some of his famous students. So a book would probably be well received.

Barney Rosset should have good stories on him so someone should go and go and get them before he dies. But even in the documentary OBSCENE he just repeats the same old story on how they met, and how Kulhman was about to leave after having his art rejected when a drawing fell from his portfolio, etc, etc. Nothing new there on a graphic designer that worked for Grove for 20 years.
John Gall should be the one to make it (he did a terrific job designing “By Its Cover”, where Kuhlman gets its due couple of pages of good text.

Unfortunately, we did not get to interview Barney before he passed. And several other personal friends of my father have also passed, and some family members. I cannot allow myself the luxury of regrets, however, and must plow on with preparations for any book in the future or other endeavours. My email has changed, and anyone who wishes to contact me should do so through the website http://www.roykuhlman.com or the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/RoyKuhlman.GraphicDesigner. And now there is a Pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/ardenriordan/
I am sincerely grateful for everyone who has expressed interest and love for my father’s work. Without you, I would probably do nothing about his work. But you all have inspired me, and I am currently organizing the archive.
Please feel free to contact me. Arden
